Teacher Sharla’s Online Student Policy Quick Guide

What to expect in Teacher Sharla’s Online Lessons:

  • Taking online lessons is a combination of the following: Interactive videos, customized lesson assignments, face to face online lesson time, music apps for learning theory, recording, performing, and more!
  • Student’s have 3-4 online lessons per month and 2 online lessons plus an online recital during the month of December. The last week of each month is a YouTube lesson recording, an online group class, or online mini recital.
  • The cost for online lessons is $189 CDN per student per month. An email will be sent from Wave Accounting prompting you to set up automated credit card payments as part of the registration process.
  • Live lessons will not be made up if there is a time conflict, a recorded lesson will take its place.
  • Materials and method books are purchased by the parent.

PAYMENT – payment is made through Wave Accounting. You will receive an email prompting you to set up the account with your credit card. Payments are processed on the first of the month.

MISSED LESSONS – missed lessons will be replaced with an asynchronous video lesson where the student can send a video of what pieces they are working on and the teacher will respond in kind with a video assignment. If the teacher misses lessons due to illness, every effort will be made to reschedule that lesson at a mutually convenient time.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES– performances and recordings are a high priority. Students should make every opportunity to attend online recitals, both the end of month mini recitals, and Winter (December) and Spring (April) studio-wide recitals.

DISCONTINUATION OF LESSONS – lessons can be discontinued with one month’s notice. The first month’s payment will be equivalent to two month’s charge so that will be the first and last month’s payment taken up front. Lesson slots that are not paid for by the 5th of the month will be automatically surrendered to be offered to another student.

Additionally, as a piano teacher guided by her values, I reserve the right to discontinue teaching lessons for any of the following reasons. If I decide to terminate lessons, tuition will be prorated up to the last lesson taken and a refund provided, if applicable. The reasons for discontinuation may be:

Persistent absences/tardiness
Excessive requests for scheduling changes
Lack of progress due to insufficient practice
Uncooperative attitude or general dislike of lessons

PRACTICE – practice is important! Regular practice is the key to success in music lessons. Try to make the first practice within the first 24 hours of your lesson. You will retain 75% more of the material by doing this, giving a boost to your retention from the recent instruction.
